This chapter will be divided into two sections. In the first section, the authors will assess the manner in which Europe is taught at Palestinian universities – the reasons behind teaching Europe, the topics covered in different programs, the modalities for making such courses possible, and the expectations university administration, instructors, and students have from such a course. The second section will address the connection between the way Europe is taught in Palestine and the colonial past of Europe, and how teaching Europe affected the environment within the Palestinian universities.
The authors have tentative hypothesis that the colonial past of Europe contributed to the creation of the question of Palestine; as a result, understanding Europe and its history means understanding the question of Palestine itself.
