اهتمامي بكتابات بريمو ليفي جاءت من أكثر من مصدر. لكن أهمها هو استخدام جورجيو أجامبين لكتاباته للحديث عن بقايا أوشفتس – مشيرا للخبرة التي يأتي بها من عاش هذه الخبرة وعاد ليشهد من أمثال بريمو ليفي. فهو كان في أوشفتس وتم اختياره للعمل القسري بدل قتله مباشرة في آلة القتل الجماعي، غرف الغاز التي أعدها النازيون لما كانوا يسمونه “الحل النهائي” للقضية اليهودية. تفاصيل تظهر آلة الانتهاك الصارخ لأدنى متطلبات الكرامة الانسانية وعلاقة السجناء مع بعضهم وطريقة تعاملهم مع الانتظار لليوم المشؤوم الذي يمكن أن يتم اختيارهم فيه بطريقة أشبه بالعشوائية للموت. للمهتمين بمعرفة الحياة الداخلية لمن كان في أوشفتس أثناء السنوات الأخيرة من الحكم النازي عليه أن يقرأ هذا الكتاب. وهو بالأصل باللغة الإيطالية لكنه متاح أيضاً باللغة العربية (هل هذا هو الإنسان، مكتبة علاء الدين، 2009)
